Is Life Coaching the same as Counselling? How will the sessions work and how many will I need? Why is coaching worth investing in? What kind of people have coaching?
Is Life Coaching the same as Counselling? No. Counselling focuses on past events to help deal with negative emotions and behaviour. Coaching may involve a glance to the past, but the focus is on the present and future and on obtaining results. What do I need a coach for?
Put simply, a coach will help you to get the most out of your life. To figure out those things that you want and give you the self-knowledge and belief to actually start moving towards them. Some life changes we are able to make on our own but we all tend to get used to things as they are and get out of the habit of trying new things, taking risks and making changes. The help of a coach can make all the difference - someone totally focused on increasing your happiness by improving your thinking about yourself and your capabilities and by motivating and encouraging you. Coaching is only suitable for people who really want to grow and learn and who are prepared to face the challenges on the road to success.
How
will the sessions work and how many will I need? I will do my best to help you attain a fuller, happier life, fulfill your goals and live according to your values, but you have ultimate responsibility for the process and the results. Before our first session I will ask you to fill out a questionnaire. Life coaching is a holistic process, so you will be encouraged to consider all areas of your life from health and fitness, to relationships with family and friends, to work and career. This will help to focus your thinking and provide a basis for us to design the coaching programme. Before I ask you commit to a series of coaching sessions I will give you an opportunity to experience coaching. We will arrange a mini-session where we work on a particular issue and you get a feel for the process and my style, and we both have a chance to decide if we would like to work together. Once you've signed up for some sessions, we begin by discussing in detail your future goals and will agree on what will constitute success for the coaching relationship. During the course of our coaching sessions we will determine what actions you need to take. You will make a commitment as to when you are going to perform those tasks and I will follow them up in the next session. I require commitment, cooperation and honesty from my clients. Please expect to be challenged and be willing to try any written or verbal exercises I may suggest. A life coaching session usually takes place over the phone but in some circumstances can be face to face. Sessions are usually on a weekly or fortnightly basis depending on your needs and last one hour. A course of life coaching can vary in length, it’s entirely up to you and what you want to achieve. I would recommend 4 sessions as a minimum.
Why is Coaching worth investing in?
We all have this one precious life so it makes sense to wring out of it the most happiness we possibly can. If you can do something to make each and every day a better one then now is the time to do it! No point waiting a few more years and looking back with regret.
I believe that investing in coaching is money well spent because the effects can last long into your future. In the event of you feeling that you have not gained significant benefit from coaching I offer a full money back guarantee.
What kind of people have life coaching?
Life coaching is perfect for individuals who want to improve their life and increase their happiness. I work with clients who have specific goals of changing career, getting a promotion, starting a business or writing a novel, as well as clients that have no clear idea of what they want, just that they want things to change. Life coaching requires commitment to yourself, your goals and your coach, and should only be undertaken by those who are serious about change. On a personal note, I think that nearly everyone would benefit from coaching. I am regularly coached and find that it drives me forward in a way I am unable to achieve on my own. I set harder targets with my coach and have an opportunity to think and talk through challenges that otherwise would cause me worry. Over time coaching and being coached leads to a different way of thinking. Instead of getting stuck at each bump in life you start to look at the learning you can take from them and how you can move forward from there.
The coaching format and duration will depend entirely on your particular needs. I would usually recommend a minimum of 4 sessions, but one-off sessions can be arranged. Single sessions are charged at £50 and a pre booked series of 4 sessions is only £180. Sessions last one hour and prices include unlimited e-mail contact. In order to have maximum effect, coaching needs to involve a personal investment from clients that guarantees the commitment will be taken seriously. Sometimes however the price is out of reach for individuals who would really benefit from coaching and so I allocate two sessions per week at a reduced rate. If you'd be interested in one of these sessions, just let me know when you get in touch. I offer a full money back guarantee should you feel that you have not gained any benefit from coaching.
